While the loss of a breeder in the pack can lead to the pack dissolving, this is less likely given that only one breeder was lost (we assume) and the pack had many individuals (20+), some of which would be adults. Also, the death of a breeding adult could have had greater impact if it was during the denning season. Brutus will likely be replaced by an unrelated adult but he probably would have sired any pups born next month. We hope to collar up to 4 wolves this summer and we’ll also see if the pack’s movement patterns will be similar.

--DeanCarissa Winter, Web Specialisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10909127160077454822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31807059.post-50966699228966699362010-04-29T07:47:31.685-05:002010-04-29T07:47:31.685-05:00I'm glad you put in to respect the Musk Ox,I l...I'm glad you put in to respect the Musk Ox,I love them and all the Arctic animals and that will not change, they have to defend themselves and that is just how life is.

I find predator-prey dynamics very interesting and I'm very glad that there are still places where they can continue relatively undisturbed.

Rest well Brutus.

(Also,I wonder what is in store for his pack now,do you think much will change?)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31807059.post-76421523839543529472010-04-29T01:10:59.737-05:002010-04-29T01:10:59.737-05:00Thanks for the update Dean and thanks to the weath...Thanks for the update Dean and thanks to the weather station staff.
